XXYYXX breaks silence with wave-inspired track ft. $K
Marcel Everett, better known as XXYYXX has emerged after a two-year silence. Following his last release Red, the electronic producer has just released the first half of a two-track project ‘I Don’t’ featuring rapper $K.
In the past, XXYYXX has produced remixes for artists such as Tinashe and Usher, created the track ‘What We Want’ for the video game Grand Theft Auto V, and headlined the Noise Pop Festival in 2013. Although he has not released any music over the two-year period, he has spent most of 2016 touring the US playing festival gigs such as Ancient Future and the Shambhala Festival. He has also been working on a collaboration with Melbourne vocalist Vanessa Elisha for the R&B track ‘Dark & Lonely’ released earlier this year.
Dark and moody, ‘I Don’t’ gives off a sinister feel, synonymous with Everett’s signature style. Rapper $K handles vocal duties and adds to the trap-injected production, featuring some definitive wave-inspiration along the likes of artists featured on the infamous youtube channel FOMH, accompanied by gloomy lyrics about drugs and living life in the ‘fast lane’. The combination of rumbling synth bass, snippets of pitched vocals and hints of electric guitar gives off a more mature sound.
While there may be no news of a new album, XXYYXX has announced North American tour accompanied by Chrome Sparks.
